New work

A few years ago, I was traveling in Italy and walking along the boardwalk of a lake. It was drizzling that day, but I wanted to see the town, so I walked around with my umbrella. As I was walking down the boardwalk, I saw a mother and daughter feeding bread to ducks on the shore of the lake. I've kept this image in my head as a card idea for a long time, and now I've finally put it it to paper! (Photos of the inspirational scene below. although now that I'm looking at these photos again, it looks like they're feeding pigeons, not ducks)

Baikal-inspired cards

I'm back! Sorry for disappearing again, but I was studying for the bar and then I was in Russia. That's a valid excuse, right?

Since I've been back, I've managed to crank out some new cards (two of which are inspired by my trip to Lake Baikal):

Baikal Seal - New Baby card.
The Baikal seal, aka Nerpa seal, is native to Lake Baikal in Siberia, and when born, it has a soft white fur that it sheds when it reaches adulthood. The Nerpa seals are found in the Ushkanny Islands in Lake Baikal, west of the Svyatoy Nos Peninsula. It's a mystery as to how they wound up at Baikal, thousands of miles away from any ocean. One theory is that a much larger body of water once connected Baikal to the Arctic Ocean. Another theory is that the seals swam through rivers from the Arctic to Baikal. In any case, they are the only freshwater seal in existence.

Unfortunately, something is wrong with blogger's image uploading system, so I can't upload anything else right now. Next time!

All Quiet on the Western Front

It's been pretty quiet here recently. I've mostly been busy filling orders for shops and studying. Haven't been working on anything new, although I do have a few ideas that I want to work on soon.

I've also been going through my boyfriend's photographs for a soon-to-be-unveiled project. I'm especially drawn to a series of photos he took in Litva, Lithuania some years ago:

These colorful boats are common in Lithuania.

This stuffed animal has just had a bath!

I love the tiered balconies and the atmosphere in this picture.

A little girl feeds a flock of swans.

A couple rows out to the castle in a colored boat.

See the rest of the series here.
